It was really great to catch up with many of you at our Spring Soiree events in Auckland and Wellington over the last 2 weeks. For those of you who couldn’t join us we thought we’d share the information that we presented at these events around pigmentation and most excitingly our launch of the new PowerBright TRx range specifically designed to treat hyperpigmentation.

Brown spots, discoloration and uneven skin tone. We all suffer from these signs on our skin, and we often associate these things with an ageing skin. In fact, an uneven skin tone is perceived as an ‘aged skin’ and a more even tone is judged to be healthier and younger. Pigmentation is one of the most difficult skin conditions to treat, as the entire process of making melanin is a very complicated matter indeed.

To truly obtain the results your clients desire, you need to understand what is happening during this pathway of melanogenesis. We know that the melanocyte itself is a fragile cell, and is dendritic, and there are a couple of different schools of thought as to how the melanin actually is transferred to the surrounding cells. It is thought to either be injected by the dendrites, fusion between the keratinocyte and melanocyte membranes or actual phagocytosis where the keratinocyte surrounds the dendritic arm and bites the tip off with the melanosome. Although this exact process of transferring melanin isn’t entirely understood, we do know that there are critical factors that need to be addressed to effectively treat hyperpigmentation issues.

To inhibit melanogenesis, we need to have products that contain a variety of ingredients so that they can target different points along the pathway, thus having a greater effect on slowing and reducing the production of melanin. Ingredients such as, peptides, phytic acid, zinc glycinate and algae extracts will improve the lightening of pigmentation while hyaluronic acid, tocopherol and raspberry seed oil help with hydration. SPF is key in any product that is fighting pigmentation issues, but the trick is to ensure the SPF is high, but not necessarily doubling the amount of chemicals within a formula. Exfoliation is also an important part of any skincare regime targeting hyperpigmentation. Look out for ingredients such as lactobaccillis ferment and pumpkin ferment to improve clarity but are non irritating so as to not over stimulate.

Our answer to this is Dermalogica’s new PowerBright TRx system which is a powerful leave on system to address all of these issues. These new formula’s are peptide rich, and silky smooth to control and prevent hyperpigmentation, creating your client’s smoothest, even and brightest skin ever!

For Dermalogica stockists, this range is now available to order now from the Business Centre and full details of the range and launch deal can be found in the October Profit Flash.
